Technology Portfolio Information and Requirements

NEW! Please click here information on TaskStream, a portfolio and assessment development software that assists students in the creation of documents throughout their teacher education program including teacher education candidacy, pre-internship, and program completion.

Requirement:

All preservice teacher education candidates (students) are required to submit an "Instructional Technology Portfolio" which demonstrates mastery of the National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers (NETS-T).

This requirement is mandated by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction as a condition for initial licensure. The technology portfolio is a comprehensive collection of technology related projects, course assignments, teaching strategies, and reflective statements that each candidate acquires throughout their teacher-education program and practices during their student teaching / internship experience.

Technology Portfolio Standards:

Beginning fall 2003, WCU students entering teacher education will be required to prepare their technology portfolio using the National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers (NETS-T).

Portfolio Evaluation:

Candidates admitted to teacher education beginning fall 2003 to current will be evaluated using the NETS-T Portfolio Evaluation Form. All portfolios are evaluated by the University and/or Academic Supervisor and the Cooperating Teacher. Portfolios are measured on the quality of the evidences/artifacts as related to the specific performance indicators and on relevance of reflective statements to teaching and learning with technology (pedagogy).

A copy of the technology portfolio evaluation form must be filled out, signed by the candidate, cooperating teacher, and university faculty member and forwarded to the College of Education and Allied Professions' Licensure Secretary and another forwarded to the College's Director of Instructional Technology prior to the end of the semester or after the portfolio evaluation is completed. The portfolio evaluation will also be annotated on the exit criteria for student teaching / internship that is turned into the CEAP Licensure Office.
