BLOCK

"Block" is a required course for elementary/middle grades education majors. Students usually take "block" the semester before beginning the internship. They spend one full day a week in a public school classroom. Placements, via contacts with schools, are made through the department by the coordinator of the "block" program.

Students taking "block" must write and teach 3 - 4 lessons over the course of the semester. These lessons must be approved and evaluated by the cooperating teacher. The "block" coordinator visits each student once per semester.

Students must attend a seminar twice a semester. They must also keep a journal. They are evaluated by the cooperating teacher at the end of the semester. If a student misses more than 2 days they must withdraw from the course and repeat.

Block Placements are handled through The Department of B-K, Elementary and Middle Grades Education.
