Early Field Experience Forms and Deadlines - Fall 2008
Students in EDCI 231, PSY 321 and SPED 335/336/337 are required to have 16 hours of observation in a regional school classroom for each class with at least one observation visit on 4 seperate calendar weeks.
Host Teacher Evaluations of Students
Host Teachers will be asked to evaluate each student at the end of the observation. The results will be available to both course professors and advisors. Negative evaluations or improper behavior can result in reduced grade, removal from the observation placement, or in extreme cases removal from the education program. Professional behavior is expected at all times.
August 18, 2008 - August 29, 2008: Set Application Appointments
- The Director of Field Experience will visit classes requiring Early Field Experience to discuss procedures, requirements, and to set appointments. Students missing this class should call 828-227-7314 to make an appointment.
- EDCI 231 Students complete background check
September 2 - 11, 2008 8:30am to 4:30pm or phone: Applications
ALL students in EDCI 231, SPED 335/336/337 and PSY321 are required to complete an Early Field Experience application and meet with the Director of Field Experiences to be assigned a placement. Dates for these are as follows:
- August 4 - August 29 : ONLY students who already have their location assigned: Interns, Block, and students currently employed in the school where they will be observing.
- September 2 - 4 : ONLY SPED 335/336/337 and PSY 321 students
- September 8 - 12 : EDCI 231 students and anyone else who has not completed the application process. EDCI students should not expect placements in Jackson County and should allow extra travel time in their schedules accordingly.
Early Field Experience Application for students - Required for all students.
Alternative Assignment Form - This optional form is used to request up to 8 hours of observation activities outside your assigned classroom. This must be signed by your instructor before submission. Due with your application for placement.
Expectations Concerning Field Placements - Important. Students that do not conform to expectations can be removed from their placement or, in extreme cases, the teacher education program.
Liability Insurance Information
September 8-19, 2008
Students should begin their observations. Students have 10 weeks to complete 16 observation hours per class - usually 8 weeks of 2 hour sessions. Students are responsible for working observations around university and school breaks, illnesses, and other occasional missed observations.
September 26, 2008 at 5:00pm
- Contract will need to be completed with your cooperating teacher. This is intended to be completed at your first observation session, so plan ahead. Paper form submission to Killian 228 (Fax 828-227-7610). Students failing to complete contract will be subject to having their observation placements terminated.
Friday, November 21, 2008 at 5:00pm
- Time Sheet should be signed by Cooperating Teacher at each visit. Paper form submission to Killian 228 (Fax 828-227-7610). Time sheets are needed for 16 hours of observation per class. This includes any pre-approved alternative assignments. The Office of Field Experiences cannot accept these late. No exceptions.
- Evaluation of Host Teacher by student- Complete via TaskStream
On Monday, November 24 professors will be advised which students have not completed their Field Experience Requirement. At that point, students with missing hours or paperwork will need to appeal to the Associate Dean to receive course credit.
