Internship and Student Teaching Application Requirements, Forms & Deadlines:

Application Deadline for Spring 2009 - Must be Received by Friday, September 26 at 5pm - This deadline applies to all students including Licensure Only, Graduate and those employed in the schools

Applications will be processed based on the following priority:

  • Students who have met all application deadlines and attended all required functions
  • Students who have met all application deadlines but failed to attend required functions
  • Students with late application but still submitted by October 31 - placement not guaranteed.

Applications will not be accepted for any reason after October 31 - students will need to delay student teaching/internship for another semester.

Required and Recommended Events:

  • Required Meet & Greet with School Representatives for Undergraduate Intern I & Student Teachers. Recommended for all students since this a chance to meet potential employers.

    Date to be announced. Drop-in event. Students do not need to attend the entire hour.

Required orientation meeting about application and internship process for Undergraduate Intern I & Student Teachers - Attend one:

  • Monday, August 25 at 8:30am in Killian 104
  • Tuesday, August 26 at 5:00pm in Killian 104
  • Wednesday, August 27 at 5:30pm in Killian 104
  • Thursday, August 28 at 8:30am in Killian 104

Application Requirements:

  • Must be admitted to Teacher Education Program - including Test Scores & Transcripts in Banner to apply. Contact Barbara Schade at 828-227-2000 for more information.
  • Must have declared a major program that leads to a North Carolina Teaching License or Birth-Kindergarten program listed with the Registrar's Office (entered in Banner/MyCat)
  • Application - All students (Internship or Student Teaching - including Graduates)
  • Advisor/Department Recommendation - (Internship or Student Teaching - including graduates) The Elementary and Middle Grades Education Department requires simultaneus submission of graduation application.
  • Site Supervisor Designation Form to teach where employed - (only if employed by school hosting internship)
  • School Visitation Log - For school visit signatures - (Elementary/Middle Grades undergraduate students only - optional for other students. Students are encouraged to visit schools where they are considering an internship)
  • Background Check Information - (Internship or Student Teaching - including MAT). Background check must be within 6 months of beginning internship unless employed by the school system.

  • Undergraduates complete Resume on TaskStream. Late resumes (After September 26) will not be processed and sent to schools leaving students less competitive for internship locations. Graduate Students are encouraged to submit a resume with their application packet. See instructions on TaskStream. Students are encouraged to have Career Services review resume and also to submit resume to Career Service for potential employers. Contact Mardy Ashe.
