Creating: Make a New Web Page

Much of the time, web design involves creating new web pages and linking them to pages that already exist on your site. Though this topic was already covered in the web page instruction in chapter one, it deserves repeating here. An introduction to managing text sizes is also introduced.

To create a new web page using Netscape Composer, click File in the menu bar and select New. From the sub-menu that appears, select the Blank Page command. A new blank web page appears with the Composer toolbar above.

Once the blank page appears, just begin typing. It's just another word processor, but one specialized for web publishing.

Note the word Normal on the left of the toolbar. To have the greatest flexibility across different web browsers and different operating systems, do not change the font. For headings of different sizes, do NOT click the number and choose a larger font size. Instead, click the Normal command and select one of the six sizes, with Heading 1 being the largest and Heading 6 being the smallest.

The reason for this is that not all computers have the same fonts that your computer system has, including different font sizes. Using the above window creates a neutral set of text sizes that will enable browsers such as Internet Explorer and Netscape to provide their own best font for that size.
