Administrator Standards for the Information Age

I would hope a section of this would deal with looking at new teacher
evaluation strategies in tech-rich classrooms.  I guess it links back to
knowledge of what kinds of activities go on in tech-based learning
environments and that the success is in what kids are doing and NOT in what teachers are saying.  I am sure you have heard the old story about principal who walks in and sees small groups working, kids writing at computers, working with cameras, reading and discussing.  Teacher walking from group to group, asking questions, clarifyng etc and the principal taps her/him and says, "I will come back when you are teaching".   I am not sure how this issue works into standards but I think it is a major concern if real integration is going to occur.

  • ISTE Administrative Standards Project. A national group of educators has been selected to meet in the state of Washington the first week February to draft a set of standards for school administrators. The expected completion date is October, 2001. This link takes you to some of the advance readings this group will do prior to their discussion. http://cnets.iste.org/tssaresource.htm
  • The educator standards for all educators, both teacher and administrator, have been recently adopted by the Texas State Board of Educational Certification (http://www.sbec.state.tx.us/certstand/stand_techapp.pdf)
  • Massachusetts has the PRINCIPLES OF EFFECTIVE ADMINISTRATIVE

  • LEADERSHIP AND EXAMPLES OF DESCRIPTORS which can be found at
    http://www.doe.mass.edu/lawsregs/603cmr35/603cmr35_4.html. They are
    coupled with the Massachusetts Frameworks

  • Ohio has adopted a 4 tier state certification process for teachers and

  • administrators. The first two, novice and practitioner, are in place. The
competencies are the same for both teaching and administrative staff but
the skill demonstration test is different, reflecting the real usage of
    technology.   See
