SUTEP Governance

Structure of the Western Carolina University School-University Teacher Education Partnership

Steering Committee:

The Steering Committee sets and monitors policy and direction for the Partnership. It also sets, monitors, and evaluates annual and long-range goals. The Steering Committee is responsible for assuring adequate communication among partnership stakeholders. The membership of this committee consists of co-chairs of the Standing Committees, Dean of WCU College of Education and Allied Professions, and three at-large members. The SUTEP Coordinator is an ex-officio member.

Standing Committees:

Recruitment: The Recruitment Committee promotes education as a career and conducts programs to recruit teachers and other professional educators. One co-chair is from the university and one is from a partnership school.

Preservice: The Preservice Committee supports the professional preparation of quality teachers. One co-chair is from the university and one is from a partnership school.

Induction: The Committee provides support for new and initially licensed teachers. One co-chair is from the university and one is from a partnership school.

Professional Development: The Professional Development Committee assesses the needs of the partnership in collaboration with LEAs, WRESA, and NCCAT to provide professional development opportunities that complement other professional development activities in the region. One co-chair is from the university and one is from a partnership school.

Liaison Committee: The Liaison Committee is comprised of a liaison (representative) from each partnership school. It is advisory to the Director of Field Experiences and the Coordinator of SUTEP. Liaisons facilitate communication with partnership schools and the placement of students for clinical experiences in the schools.
